Employment Summary

2020 – 2021, Building Designer, Abbotsford

2018, Intern Interior Designer, Vancouver

Born in South Africa, Selmarie moved to Canada at a young age and grew up immersed in sports, music, and art. She attended Abbotsford Senior Secondary’s IB program shortly after the school completed renovations. The results inspired Selmarie to pursue interior design—hoping she may have the chance to eventually work with the firm behind the new design. It just so happened that the firm was SOA!

After high school, Selmarie went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from KPU’s Wilson School of Design. It was during her fourth-year design thesis that she cemented her interest in designing for education. Selmarie values the importance of the design process itself, and has developed a keen interest in pushing the boundaries of education design. Her work reflects her background by consistently incorporating colour, patterns, and unique design solutions.

Selmarie is currently working towards writing her NCIDQ to become a Registered Interior Designer, as well as her WELL AP accreditation. Her favourite activities include sketching, rendering, cycling, running, and exploring the outdoors with her puppy Zeebee.
