Employment Summary

2021 – Present, Station One Architects

2020 – 2021, Building Designer, Abbotsford

2018, Interior Designer, Vancouver

Born in South Africa, Selmarie moved to Canada at a young age and grew up immersed in sports, music, and art. She attended Abbotsford Senior Secondary’s IB program shortly after the school completed renovations. The results inspired Selmarie to pursue interior design—hoping she may have the chance to eventually work with the firm behind the new design. It just so happened that the firm was SOA!

After high school, Selmarie went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from KPU’s Wilson School of Design. It was during her fourth-year design thesis that she cemented her interest in designing for education. Selmarie values the importance of the design process itself, and has developed a keen interest in pushing the boundaries of education design. Her work reflects her background by consistently incorporating colour, patterns, and unique design solutions.

Selmarie is currently working towards writing her NCIDQ to become a Registered Interior Designer, as well as her WELL AP accreditation. Her favourite activities include sketching, rendering, cycling, running, and exploring the outdoors with her puppy Zeebee.

Chamber of Architects in Antalya, Turkey

After qualifying as an Architect in Turkey, Serap has enjoyed a challenging and diverse range of experiences. Over the years, her passion for architecture remained, but because of her love for details, interior design became her niche.

Serap’s goal for the near future is to become a member of Interior Designers Institute of British Columbia (IDIBC).

Outside work, Serap enjoys spending time with her young daughter exploring, and enjoying the outdoors (which includes of course playgrounds)! Having a great appreciation for fine art and art history, Serap will visit art galleries whenever given the chance, and is especially fond of mosaic artwork from her home of Turkey which is steeped in rich ancient Roman and Greek history.

Passionate about woodworking, he enjoys the involved process of designing something in his mind, working the idea out on paper, and then bringing it to life with his hands. This process is also enjoyable to Blake because there are so many ways something can be accomplished, and there might not always be a best way to do something, but in that pursuit, a feasible way can be found that will nearest solve the problem.
