Alvin Bartel graduated with distinction from the Technical University of Nova Scotia’s Architecture program in 1994 with a Master’s degree, winning the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada’s Gold Medal for outstanding thesis work on a First Nations Mi’kmaq language broadcasting facility that utilized bentwood technology. He was presented with the TUNS School of Architecture Graduate Scholarship, and among other awards was co-winner of the ECOFYS International Architectural Ideas Competition.
Involved in the construction industry for more than 30 years, Alvin began his career in architecture working on a variety of residential, commercial, and institutional projects in and around Metro Vancouver.
He has gained extensive experience as Project Architect on several public schools, community, residential and healthcare projects, as part of integrated multi-disciplinary teams. Alvin’s projects generally incorporate concepts such as affordability, adaptability, durability, sustainability, and energy efficiency.

Justin Dyck obtained his master’s degree in Architecture from the University of Manitoba and gained experience working on a range of projects in Manitoba, Ontario and the UK before heading west. For the past 12 years, Justin has worked with school districts and communities across BC to deliver design solutions that meet the unique needs of user groups. He loves working with small communities and values bringing students into the design process as the ultimate users of school projects. Justin is passionate about sustainability. His designs frequently connect the built environment to nature while striving for minimal environmental impact.

Jordan recently moved to the Fraser Valley and is excited to join the Station One Architects’ team. He began his architectural career in Lethbridge, Alberta where he had the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects including educational, administration, commercial, industrial, and institutional projects from conception to completion.
Jordan has intent as a Registered Architect to establish environments, both public and private, that inspire and improve the quality of life of their occupants by stimulating a strong “sense of place.” Passionate about sustainable impacts the built environment has on each community, he strives to enhance his understanding of how design can enrich a person’s daily life experience. Jordan’s passion and focus on social sustainability was rewarded with a Calgary Mayor’s Urban Design Award in recognition of excellence in urban design and achievement in enhancing the quality of life in Calgary.

His extensive experience includes acting as a project architect, managing contracts, overseeing office operations, and participating in various committees serving his local community. Born and raised in South Africa, Taryn’s passion for architecture was kindled during many visits to her father’s residential developments. Her interest in socio-economic and environmental sustainability inspired her to base her thesis on the sustainable adaptation of suburban infrastructure and residential design. Starting in 2009, Taryn co-lectured Advanced Construction to the BAS Honors students on a part-time basis while working for a small firm. Taryn’s experience in architecture is focused on residential, commercial, educational, and industrial developments. In 2012, she started her own practice in preparation of becoming a mother and loved every minute of it!
Having moved to beautiful BC in 2015, Taryn enjoys spending time with her young family and exploring the local natural beauty. Born in South Africa, Selmarie moved to Canada at a young age and grew up immersed in sports, music, and art. She attended Abbotsford Senior Secondary’s IB program shortly after the school completed renovations. The results inspired Selmarie to pursue interior design—hoping she may have the chance to eventually work with the firm behind the new design. It just so happened that the firm was SOA!
After high school, Selmarie went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from KPU’s Wilson School of Design. It was during her fourth-year design thesis that she cemented her interest in designing for education. Selmarie values the importance of the design process itself, and has developed a keen interest in pushing the boundaries of education design. Her work reflects her background by consistently incorporating colour, patterns, and unique design solutions.

She learned about international design standards and trends through her work on projects in Ukraine and other countries including Japan, Pakistan, the UK and Norway. Irene was born and raised in Ukraine and moved to Canada in 2022 due to the war. She has three degrees in the fields of Fine Arts and Interior Design. Her goal is to become a registered Interior Designer in BC.
Iryna has been fascinated by art since early childhood and was enrolled in an art school at the age of 10. Her work has been showcased at various art exhibitions in Ukraine. She was attracted to interior design because designers can create beautiful and functional spaces that people love to experience and return to.
Iryna enjoys music and plays the piano. She also has a lifelong love of sports, including tennis, cycling, hiking, skating and snowboarding. She loves to overcome her fears and challenge herself.

Raised in the Kootenays, Sean developed an interest in buildings from an early age. He moved to Toronto to study Architectural Technology at Centennial College. During his final year at college, Sean worked in residential construction to gain hands on experience, learning about building processes and methods utilized at the job site. Sean brings creativity, technical proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit, and practical knowledge to his role as Drafting Technician with Station One Architects.

Cameron first came to Station One Architects while undertaking a practicum as part of his architectural drafting certificate at BCIT. His faith and his passion for history inspired his interest in architecture. His 3D printing skills are often used at the office to help us showcase our designs, and his keen attention to detail ensures that the drawings he produces precisely follow the requirements of the project.
Outside of work, Cameron’s outdoor pursuits range from going out for walks with his girlfriend and their two dogs to archery and axe throwing. At home, he enjoys 3D printing new models and learning to paint said models. He is also slowly learning to become fluent in both German and Latin.

She obtained her first job in the industry at Station One Architects and is excited to see what her future in architecture will hold.
Hailey has always been intrigued by different cultures and architectural styles from around the world, which she has had the chance to experience firsthand during her travels. Outside of work, you can find Hailey spending time with family and friends, enjoying music, eating delicious food or getting lost in the mountains somewhere. She is always up for an adventure!
