A new and improved school for both students and the community
Parkcrest Elementary is a replacement school for the previous Parkcrest Elementary campus, which was destroyed by a fire in September 2019. The new school will be of a larger capacity with 18 classrooms, 3 kindergarten classrooms, and a Neighborhood Learning Centre. In collaboration with the City of Kamloops, additional funding was secured to double the size of the previous elementary gymnasium, which will be available for use by the local community.
The existing site allowed for the school to remain a single storey building. The roof beams will feature wood as a glulam construction design, and the construction will incorporate non-combustible materials. In order to accommodate the climate in Kamloops, the facility will be fully air conditioned through a geothermal cooling system.
