Architectural Technologist

Architectural Technologists at SOA are highly skilled and valued professionals who are experts at the technical details that support great building design. They are vital members of our project teams and take on significant responsibilities in addition to the duties of a drafting technician. Our architectural technologists share SOA’s commitment to making a difference in BC communities by excelling in the areas of multi-family, institutional and educational facility design.

Reports to:

This position reports to a Team Lead

SOA Architectural Technologists:

  • Assist in coordinating, leading and taking minutes for project meetings with clients and consultants
  • Assist with the preparation of specifications and addenda
  • Assist with reviewing shop drawings, coordinating RFI responses and performing field reviews
  • Assist in the creation of Building Information Models (BIM)
  • Prepare details for architectural drawings with minimum markups required, ensuring applicable standards and checklists are followed
  • Produce a complete set of working drawings for permit and tender submission in the applicable software
  • Assist other team members in learning drafting roles
  • Assist in other technical, administrative and general duties as required
  • Travel to clients and project sites across BC as required
  • Participate in relevant continuing education opportunities
  • Participate in building SOA team culture
  • Model SOA core values to our team, clients and the public
  • Assist in other areas as required to develop SOA’s mission, vision and values

Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architectural or Building Sciences, equivalent post-secondary or combined Diploma in Architectural or Building Science and experience
  • 5+ years’ experience as a Drafting Technician
  • Registered, or eligible to be registered, with the AIBC; maintain good standing
  • Experience in the production of construction drawings for medium-to-large-scale projects
  • Experience preparing and assembling complete construction documents for permit applications and tender
  • Experience with wood-frame construction and applying the BC Building Code
  • Fluency in Revit, Microsoft 365, Lumion and other applicable graphic and visualization software

Starting salary: $55,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
